(NewsNation) — King Charles was heckled by a protester Monday who asked the royal about Prince Andrew’s relationship with convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.
Charles was outside the Lichfield Cathedral, shaking hands with supporters, when someone in the crowd asked him if he asked the police to cover up for Andrew.
“How long have you known about Andrew and Epstein?” the protester asked, as seen in this video, obtained by The Guardian. “Have you asked the police to cover up for Andrew?”
As King Charles continues to shake hands with people in the crowd, one woman tells the protester to “shut up.”
According to The Guardian, the person who recorded the video may be the protester and may be a member of the anti-monarchy group called Republic.
Prince Andrew renounces royal title
Earlier this month, Andrew announced he was giving up his royal titles, including the Duke of York, after a “discussion with the King.”
“In discussion with The King, and my immediate and wider family, we have concluded the continued accusations about me distract from the work of His Majesty and the Royal Family. I have decided, as I always have, to put my duty to my family and country first. I stand by my decision five years ago to stand back from public life,” he wrote in a statement shared by the BBC.
Adding, “With His Majesty’s agreement, we feel I must now go a step further. I will therefore no longer use my title or the honours which have been conferred upon me. As I have said previously, I vigorously deny the accusations against me.”
The announcement comes just days after an email from 2011 surfaced revealing Andrew supporting Epstein after a photo showed Andrew with his arm around a teenage Virginia Giuffre.
Giuffre has accused the prince of sexually abusing her on multiple occasions when she was under 18 years old and a victim of sexual trafficking by Epstein and his former girlfriend, Ghislaine Maxwell.
Andrew has denied Giuffre’s allegations.
Prince William, Kate Middleton: We don’t want Prince Andrew at Windsor
In her Substack “Fresh Hell,” royal biographer Tina Brown claims that Prince William and Kate Middleton “can’t abide” Prince Andrew and don’t want him near their new “forever home,” according to US Weekly.
According to NewsNation’s Paula Froelich, negotiations are underway within the royal family to kick Andrew out of the Windsor Lodge, the 30-room mansion that he has lived in for decades.
