(NewsNation) — Rachel Zegler and Ben Platt will star together in the two-person musical “The Last Five Years” in London next year, despite drama between the “Evita” actress and Platt’s family.
“The Last Five Years” tells the story of Cathy and Jamie’s five-year relationship through a series of solo songs that weave together. Jamie’s narrative progresses in chronological order, while Cathy’s story is revealed in reverse chronological order, according to Playbill.
News of the musical team-up comes after Zegler has been criticized by Platt’s father, Marc Platt, and brother, Jonah Platt, over the disappointing box office performance of the live-action “Snow White” movie.
Marc Platt confronts Rachel Zegler about Palestine
In August 2024, Marc Platt traveled to New York City to ask Zegler to remove a “Free Palestine” comment she made on X while thanking fans for watching the “Snow White” trailer, Variety reported.
After Zegler posted a message aimed at Trump supporters, Marc Platt met with her again, prompting Disney to hire a social media manager to oversee Zegler’s online presence. A commenter on social media criticized Marc Platt’s intervention, calling it “creepy” and “uncalled for.”
Jonah Platt: Rachel Zegler’s should keep political views to herself
Jonah Platt, who hosts the podcast “Being Jewish,” criticized Zegler in March for “dragging her personal politics into the middle of promoting a movie.”
In a since-deleted post, Jonah Platt responded to an Instagram comment that reported Marc Platt’s visit to “reprimand” Zegler.
Jonah said Marc Platt’s attempt to get Zegler to delete her post was made at Disney’s request.
“Yeah, my dad, the producer of enormous piece of Disney IP with hundreds of millions of dollars on the line, had to leave his family to (…) fly across the country to reprimand his 20 year old employee for dragging her personal politics into the middle of promoting the movie for which she signed a multi-million dollar contract to get paid and do publicity for,” Jonah Platt wrote.
“This is called adult responsibility and accountability. And her actions clearly hurt the film’s box office.”
Rachel Zegler is ‘too dangerous to touch,’ says insider
A source told NewsNation’s Paula Froelich that “The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes” actress “is too dangerous to touch.”
“She doesn’t know when to shut up. After this and what happened to ‘Emilia Perez,’ studios are going to be a lot more careful hiring lead actresses,” the source continued.
As for “The Last Five Years,” it will be directed by Tony Award winner Jason Robert Brown, with performances scheduled for March 24-29, 2026, at the London Palladium.
Zegler is coming off a smash run as “Eva Peron” in Evita on London’s West End and was recently honored as 2025 Glamour Woman of the Year. Ben Platt played Evan Hansen in the Broadway musical and film adaptation of the same name.
