(NewsNation) — Brad Pitt sued ex-wife Angelina Jolie for $35 million as the two continued to wage a legal war over Château Miraval, court documents revealed.
Pitt’s lawyers submitted communications to and from Jolie’s legal team into evidence on Oct. 29, regarding her selling off her stake of their French winery in 2021, according to People Magazine.
In November 2023, lawyers from the “Salt” star responded to a lawsuit from Pitt in an email, which reportedly involved millions of dollars in damage.
“The burdensome nature of any production is a matter of Mr. Pitt’s own creation — he is suing Ms. Jolie for $35 million in damages,” Jolie’s attorneys wrote at the time. “As a result, he has to incur the expense of producing the documents that will show (or not show) those damages.”
In an earlier email, Jolie’s team mentioned that Pitt was “seeking ongoing damages for alleged harm to Miraval’s ongoing operations.”
Angelina Jolie, Brad Pitt agreed on sale rules
Jolie sold her half of the winery in October 2021 to Tenute del Mondo. Court papers showed that the couple “agreed they would never sell their respective interests in Miraval without the other’s consent.”
An insider told NewsNation’s Paula Froelich, “She got angry because a judge awarded Brad 50/50 custody, and Brad finds out from the press she had sold her part of the business.”
The “F1” actor has been successful, maintaining control over the vineyard when a court in Luxembourg ruled that 10% of the winery controlled by Tenute had to be held in escrow for two years, according to Froelich.
Before they married, the couple had bought the vineyard as a 60/40 split. Years into their marriage, Pitt gifted Jolie 10% more as a wedding gift — for one euro. It is this 10% that is being held in escrow.
