(NewsNation) — Gen Z members are calling for more friendship and less sex in their movies and television shows, a study says.
The research, conducted by UCLA’s Center for Scholars & Storytellers, found nearly 61% want to see more romantic relationships that are focused on friendship between the couple, rather than sex.
Close to 60% of people aged 14 to 24 desire content where the central relationships concentrate on friendship.
“If the situations are too over-the-top or the characters only care about popularity or romance, it’s harder for me to relate or care about the story,” one American respondent said.
The study, which surveyed 1,500 Americans between the ages of 10 and 24, also revealed 57% of Gen Z watch traditional media more than older generations think they do. When discussing TV shows and movies, 53% of Gen Z talk about them more with their friends than they discuss social media content.
Animation is also huge among Gen Z, with a rise from 42% to nearly 49% in that category this year.
