(NewsNation) — King Charles will privately fund the living accommodations of Andrew Mountbatten Windsor, formerly Prince Andrew, after the former prince was kicked out of Royal Lodge.
On Thursday, Charles stripped his brother of his remaining titles following renewed controversy over his past friendship with convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.
Earlier this month, Andrew voluntarily gave up his title as Duke of York.
“These censures are deemed necessary, notwithstanding the fact that he continues to deny the allegations against him,” Buckingham Palace said.
“Their Majesties wish to make clear that their thoughts and utmost sympathies have been, and will remain with, the victims and survivors of any and all forms of abuse,” the palace added.
His daughters with ex-wife Sarah Ferguson, Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie, will keep their titles.
Where Is Sandringham?
Sandringham Estate is located in Norfolk, England, and is 140 miles from Buckingham Palace, according to Newsweek.
Unlike other properties that the royal family inhabits through the Crown Estate, Sandringham is privately owned by the king.
While Andrew will live in Sandringham, Ferguson will need to find her own residence, Newsweek reported.
Prince Andrew dragged out negotiations to leave Royal Lodge
Before Andrew was evicted from Royal Lodge, he was reportedly dragging out negotiations to leave the property because he wanted to be paid “fairly,” in the region of “a couple of million,” for the unexpired 50 years remaining on his lease, according to NewsNation’s Paula Froelich.
The former Duke of York prepaid £8.5 million (approximately $10.9 million) for a 75-year lease on the property, effectively purchasing a lifetime tenancy at the rate of around £113,000 ($145,000) per year.
Prince Andrew to Jeffrey Epstein: ‘Keep in close touch’
The announcement came just days after an email from 2011 surfaced, revealing Andrew supporting Epstein after a photo showed Andrew with his arm around a teenage Virginia Giuffre.
“We are in this together,” Andrew wrote to Epstein, according to The Guardian.
Other messages Andrew wrote to Epstein included “keep in close touch” and one that expressed a wish to “play some more soon.”
“I’m just as concerned for you!” the email said. “Don’t worry about me! It would seem we are in this together and will have to rise above it. Otherwise, keep in close touch and we’ll play some more soon!!!!”
In 2021, Giuffre filed a lawsuit against Andrew, saying he sexually abused her when she was a teenager.
Giuffre said Epstein introduced her to Andrew in London in 2001. She alleged in her lawsuit that Ghislaine Maxwell forced her to have sex with the prince, NewsNation previously reported.
Andrew denied ever meeting Giuffre, saying the alleged incident “didn’t happen.” Giuffre and Andrew settled “in principle” in 2022.
