(NewsNation) — Food Network star and executive chef Tobias Dorzon is reflecting on how he nearly lost his life after being shot 11 times during a robbery and how he leaned on celebrity chef Guy Fieri for support.
“Even after the shooting, he was constantly on the phone with me checking in, making sure the medical staff were taking care of me, offering to order food for everyone, and just giving me words of encouragement,” Dorzon told People magazine. “He’s been here for me the whole time, every step of the way.”
In his conversation with People, Dorzon spoke candidly about what happened in November 2024, when he was on his way home when several people emerged from a car and shot at him and his girlfriend.
“I was trying to cover her, and then I started getting hit,” Dorzon said. “I went to the ground and tried to drag myself toward the curb, but I couldn’t hear my girl.”
The group robbed Dorzon of his Audemars Piguet watch and his diamond necklace, as well as other items, all worth about $100,000.
In July, police arrested 21-year-old Devin Spivey for allegedly shooting Dorzon. Spivey’s been charged with 18 counts, including attempted first- and second-degree murder, first-degree assault, armed robbery and stalking.
Police said that Spivey is 1 of 5 suspects in the case. The four other suspects remain at large.
Tobias Dorzon surprised Guy Fieri in video showing him walk
Dorzon, who was named 2024 Maryland Chef of the Year, had been told that he may never walk again, but through multiple surgeries and physical therapy, he was able to get back on his feet.
In a video posted on his Instagram from February, Dorzon can be seen surprising a visibly shocked Fieri by walking toward him with a cane.
“My dawg, my brother forever & ever 🫱🏿🫲🏻 @guyfieri Last night was as magical as it could get……
#SobeWff2025 #ChefTobias #Huncho,” he captioned the video, where the two can be seen embracing.
