(NewsNation) — Prince Harry has fiercely shut down a rumor that he tried to upstage his brother in dueling international trips.
Prince William jetted to Rio de Janeiro on Monday to mark the fifth anniversary of the Earthshot Prize, his environmental award, and the United Nations Climate Summit COP30 in Brazil, according to the Daily Mail.
While William was in Brazil, Prince Harry revealed that he was visiting Toronto, Canada, for Remembrance Day events in support of veterans.
Prince Harry pushed back against royal expert’s claim
After royal expert Victoria Arbiter stated that Harry’s announcement was “inevitable if not predictable,” his spokesperson responded to The Daily Mail, emphasizing that the timing of the announcement was due to the Duke of Sussex not receiving the same level of security and protection as other working royal family members.
“It means, therefore, that the period of time in which we can release details of events is much more truncated than it is for His Majesty the King or the Prince of Wales,” the statement read. “The events were planned nearly a year ago. The date of the main event, the dinner, is set by the charity, not Prince Harry.”
The statement continued, “He can’t choose to move those dates. We are always guided — as to when we can announce trips like this, by the advice given to us by his private security advisers and the event’s security team.”
Prince William, Prince Harry still at odds
When Harry and Meghan Markle stepped away from their roles as working royals and moved to California in 2020, Harry’s relationship with William and his father, King Charles (then Prince Charles) became strained.
Following their move, the Sussexes sat down for a tell-all interview with Oprah Winfrey, explaining why they decided to step down as senior royals.
The princes are still reportedly not speaking ever since Harry released “Spare,” his tell-all memoir, “in which he talked about both Kate and William,” a source told NewsNation’s Paula Froelich.
