(NewsNation) — Despite it being arguably the most iconic scene in the movie, actress Sissy Spacek says the pig blood scene in “Carrie” was a “terrible” experience.
Spacek chatted with Entertainment Tonight about the film, expressing shock that the movie will be celebrating its 50th anniversary next year.
“Carrie,” which is based on the Stephen King novel of the same name, follows bullied teenager Carrie, played by Spacek, who has the power of telekinesis. In the film, Carrie is doused in pig blood by her classmates at her prom, resulting in her going on a murderous rampage.
Regarding the scene, the “Die My Love” actress remembers, “how sticky movie blood is.”
“It was terrible, terrible, terrible.”
Spacek said she thinks the reason the 1976 film is still impactful today is because, “That time, middle school to high school, you’re going through so many changes and we all have, no matter what, we’ve got Carrie inside of us.”
“We’ve got a wounded teenager. It’s a hard, hard time,” she said. “Growing up is hard. And it’s kind of heartbreaking. It really hit a nerve, that film.”
